Rihanna up for three MTV Europe music awards

R and B singer Rihanna is up for three awards at MTV Europe music awards which are to be held in November.

The 'Umbrella' star has been nominated for the 'Ultimate Urban', 'Most Addictive Track' and 'Solo Artist' prizes at the 2007 show, which is to be held in Germany.

Rihanna's fellow competitors for the top spot of best 'Solo Artist' are Avril Lavigne, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Mika and Nelly Furtado, reports Contactmusic.

English singer Amy Winehouse is also nominated for the most addictive track for 'Rehab', while her album 'Back to Black' could be picked as the best of the year.

The winners at the show will be decided by the votes of the fans through MTV's website.

Rihanna rubbishes Beyonce feud reports

Singer Rihanna slammed the reports that she is involved in a dispute with fellow R and B superstar Beyonce Knowles, insisting that she finds such rumours "annoying".

The 'Umbrella' singer is also disgusted by circulating rumours that she is in a romantic relationship with her music mogul mentor Jay-Z, who is Knowles' long-term boyfriend.

She added that initially it was difficult to ignore such speculations but now she has understood not to give importance to them.

"It actually gets annoying sometimes. At first it was funny, because I was like, 'This is insane.' But it gets frustrating after awhile," Contactmusic quoted Rihanna, as saying.

"Now, I'm ignoring it, I'm getting better at doing that. But she (Knowles) is one of the sweetest women I've ever met."

Halle Berry gets racist death threats to unborn baby

Halle Berry has received racist death threats to her unborn baby.

The Oscar-winning beauty - who recently announced she was expecting her first child with boyfriend Gabriel Aubry - has been forced to hire security guards after allegedly receiving several disturbing letters from an anonymous writer.

One note warned she and her child would be "cut into hundreds of pieces".

A source close to the actress - who has a White father and an African-American mother - told Britain's Daily Mirror, "Halle does not normally use security but she has taken on a couple of guys to make sure."

In 2002, Halle became the first woman of American African descent to win a best actress Oscar for her role in Monster's Ball.

Despite the upsetting threats, Halle is enjoying her pregnancy, and her boyfriend Gabriel has revealed she is craving pickles and bread.

The 32-year-old model told People magazine, "She does crave pickles. And any bread. Doesn't matter, as long as it's salt and pickles."

Gabriel - who met 41-year-old Halle while shooting a Versace advertisement in November 2005 - also said he was pampering the mom-to-be.

He revealed, "She loves foot massages. I do all of that stuff."

Beyonce tops People fashion list

Beyonce

R&B singer Beyonce took top honors in a list of best-dressed celebrities of 2007, while bald Britney Spears won the booby prize for most shocking style moment after shaving her head.

People magazine's annual best- and worst-dressed issue hits newsstands on Friday featuring numerous Hollywood stars, all given a nickname to describe their taste in couture.

Beyonce, 26, was dubbed "The Showstopper," while actress Cameron Diaz walked into the top 10 as "The Legs," and actress Katie Holmes, who is married to Tom Cruise, graced the list as "The Classic."

"Beyonce just looks amazing every time she goes out," assistant managing editor Cynthia Sanz told Reuters. "She likes to show off her curves and she is very glamorous."

Beyonce has her own fashion line, "House of Dereon," that mixes hip hop influences with feminine touches like lace and ruffles that she launched with her mother, stylist Tina Knowles, in 2004.

Last year, former "Friends" star Jennifer Aniston topped the list after a reader's vote, but this year the magazine did not seek readers' input. Instead, the magazine's editors drew up the list without giving the 10 winners rankings.

Other women in the top 10 included Penelope Cruz, Jessica Biel, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Lopez, Reese Witherspoon, Gwen Stefani and Ali Larter.

For the men last year, singer Justin Timberlake was named "Trendiest," and praise went to British soccer star David Beckham, who recently moved with wife Victoria to Los Angeles.

This year Beckham again made the list, alongside Terrence Howard, Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt and George Clooney.

BECKHAMS WIN STYLE PRAISE

David Beckham

But there were also the worst fashions of the year as People's editors took issue with celebrities' sense of style.

Spears' decision to shave her head after a spree of partying and stints in rehab following her collapsed marriage put her at the top of the list of worst style moments.

The award comes just days after the former pop princess, who is trying to stage a comeback, drew howls from critics for her performance at the MTV Video Music Awards where her outfit resembled that of a stripper and she barely danced.

"She's had a bad year with shaving her head and all her bad fashion choices that followed that -- the wigs, the hats," said Sanz. "She really seems to be having a meltdown."

Also among the worst styles were "American Idol" contestant Sanjaya piling his hair high for the hit TV talent show, and Cameron Diaz offending Peruvians with her handbag that had a political slogan of Chinese Communist leader Mao Zedong.

In a special "British Accent" section, People paid tribute to British celebrities taking America by storm, recognizing Victoria Beckham, model Kate Moss, singer Lily Allen, Prince William's girlfriend Kate Middleton and actress Emma Watson.

"It has been a big year for the Brits with a lot of influence coming over here," said Sanz. "You can't help but look at what the Beckhams are doing and wearing, but you are not really sure why."

Rihanna tickets selling faster than previous acts

Students wait in line to purchase Rihanna tickets in the University Center Palo Duro Lounge Wednesday. Reserved seating sold out in five minutes for the Oct. 2 event.

Five minutes!!.That’s how long it took Wednesday to sell out the 350 priority seats to singer Rihanna’s October concert.

Mardie Sorensen, Student Affairs assistant vice president, said ticket sales went far better than expected. Almost the entire floor of Texas Hall — about 1,300 tickets — were gone by 12:30 p.m., a half-hour after selling began in the University Center Palo Duro Lounge and online.

Several students waiting in line grumbled about the online ticket buyers. One student complained the priority seats should have been reserved for people waiting in line.

International business freshman Adriana Rivera said she did everything she could to ensure priority seats.

“I was online on my cell phone trying to buy tickets while I was waiting in line, but I still couldn’t get them,” she said. “I’m pissed.”

Student Activities director Seth Ressl said most major university events take more time to sell out. Poet Maya Angelou and comedian Carlos Mencia sold out after several weeks of ticket sales, he said.

“I’ve never seen such a high volume of ticket sales on the first day,” Ressl said. “Absolutely not.”

Ressl said his department tried to make the first day of sales an event in itself. Rihanna’s recent success at the MTV Video Music Awards might have generated more excitement on campus. The R&B singer won two awards, including Monster Single of the Year.

“It doesn’t hurt that she’s done a lot in the last couple of days to make her more visible,” Ressl said.

Ticket revenue goes back to the money set aside from the student services fee for the spring and fall concerts hosted by Student Affairs.

Back in the ticket line, social work junior Whitney Thomas and criminal justice sophomore Edrica Boswell said they arrived at 11 a.m. to ensure priority seats. Both said that when they got there, the line went all the way down the end of the lounge and had made almost a full circle back to the table. Both thought someone should have overseen the line.

“I’d be happier if I had gotten the priority seating, but so many people skipped,” Thomas said.

The two said they planned on getting to the concert itself “extremely early” to make sure they got the next-best seats.

Biology senior Ti Phung was in the UC Palo Duro Lounge during sales but said he planned to buy tickets later that day. He said he learned over the years to buy tickets online and to aim for the first-row balcony seats.

“These people don’t know,” he said. “Just buy your tickets online. I’ve been to Ludacris and the comedy shows, and you can see so much better in the balcony.”

Tommy Lee apologise to Alicia Keys over Kid Rock brawl

Alicia Keys

Rocker Tommy Lee has apologised to Alicia Keys for fighting with Kid Rock during her performance in MTV Video Music Awards performance on Sept 9, 2007.

The Motley Crue drummer, who was plunged to sit still at the Palms in Las Vegas after the incident, revealed on his website posting a message that he was not the one to start the fight.

He insisted that he was the innocent party in the incident and was just chilling out with pals Criss Angel, Travis Barker and Diddy.

"I get a tap on the shoulder from Kid Pebble. I stand up and embrace him with a semi hug and say, 'Hey dude, what up?' He punches me in the face... Well if ya wanna call it that!?... (It was) more like a bitch slap!... Wuss," Contactmusic quoted Lee, as writing.

Lee called Kid Rock a "jealous country bumpkin" and apologised to Keys.
